Bangladesh Secures Historic Series Win with Six-Wicket Victory Over Pakistan
Bangladesh completed their series victory on Tuesday by successfully chasing down an 185 target on the final day in Rawalpindi and winning in the afternoon session of day five, sealing it with an afternoon session victory that followed their dominant 10-wicket triumph at Rawalpindi during Test 1 — marking Bangladesh’s maiden Test win against Pakistan ever.
Zakir Hasan set the stage for Bangladesh’s successful chase with an explosive 40 off 39 balls – three fours and two sixes included! In an opening partnership of 58 with Shadman Islam, his aggressive start left little opportunity for Pakistani resistance.
Shakib Al Hasan provided the winning blow when he expertly drove Abrar Ahmed through the covers, ending an unbeaten fifth-wicket stand of 32 between himself and Mushfiqur Rahim which helped stabilize Mominul Haque’s dismissal at 153-4 and this partnership.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his joy, commenting “This victory means a lot, cannot express in words. Happy that all our hard work came together – every member did their part and now it is over!”
Bangladesh’s first innings was saved by Litton Das, who scored an outstanding 136 to forge a crucial 165-run partnership between him and Mehidy Hasan Miraz for the seventh wicket – especially important given that Bangladesh were struggling at 26-6 after responding to Pakistan’s 274. Mehidy Hasan Miraz not only contributed with valuable runs of his own but also managed a five-wicket haul bowling performance.
Pakistan, who saw three batters reach half-centuries in their opening innings, struggled in their second innings en route to being bowled out for just 172. Hasan Mahmud led their struggle by taking 5-43 and 4-44 respectively while Nahid Rana also contributed their fair share with 4-44 taken by Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana respectively.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das, who made an important innings himself, expressed his delight with the match: “This match marks an impressive feat by the Bangladesh cricket team and I am immensely proud to have played my part. Credit goes to Miraz; his efforts faced 20 balls flawlessly while hitting five or six fours made our job much simpler.”
