Karachi Police Suspend Female Constable Over TikTok Video in Uniform

One female police officer from Karachi was removed for posting a TikTok video while on duty and divulging team locations, the Sindh Police announced Wednesday in their notice of suspension.

PC Maria Gill was suspended immediately following improper and irresponsible behavior towards the performance of official duties at the place of deployment, leading to negligence and dereliction of duty as per notification available on Dawn.com.

Assalamu alaikum to everyone! Today I’m on duty at Mai Kolachi Road near Bahria College.

“There is an obvious presence of police here,” Gill notes, as she points to four police officers sitting at an intersection and one can be seen pointing at Gill while recording video footage.

She then pointed to the motorbike she had parked nearby.

“Whoever wants to meet me, please come down here today; I am in this area on duty,” she stated as she waved goodbye.

Gill will participate in a counseling session led by Station House Officer Women South Zone before moving towards Police Headquarters South Zone where she must “attend daily roll call/parade.” As per this notification,

“She shall receive pay and allowances as stipulated by applicable rules,” the notice stated.

Dawn.com reported that DIG South Raza confirmed a case was requested against Gill by his supervisor of police.

“Police are professional organizations and anyone engaging in irresponsible acts cannot be permitted,” stated he.

According to an announcement from the city police, PC Zeeshan recorded and uploaded video in 2022 and uploaded it onto TikTok in 2023. As soon as his video had been taken down from TikTok it was removed from his account and he was asked to report to SSP City Office immediately.

The video that was shared across social networks also showcased him with his gun.

“No police constable will be permitted to play with or utilize weapons in such ways,” read the statement from the Metropolitan Police Service. Zero tolerance policies would be implemented against anyone found engaging in such conduct and severe departmental action would be taken against that individual. This policy also applied to officers and employees uploading videos showing themselves with official uniforms and weapons on display online.
