Legendary Singer Frankie Beverly Passes Away at 77
Frankie Beverly, the legendary vocalist and leader of the band Maze, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, at the age of 77.
On Wednesday, September 11, the family of the deceased confirmed his death and issued a touching statement asking for privacy while they grieve. Expressing profound sorrow over his passing, they stressed the importance of having space and time for healing while asking for respect during this trying time.
Frankie Beverly was born Howard Stanley Beverly on December 6th 1946 and became best-known for his involvement with funk and soul band Maze he established in Philadelphia around 1970 under its original name Raw Soul. Later moving to San Francisco and connecting with Marvin Gaye, Maze achieved incredible success releasing nine Gold albums and creating an enthusiastic following; Beverly led this act, served as leader, songwriter, record producer as well as being recognized for his smooth baritone vocals and charismatic stage presence.
In their letter, Beverly’s family paid their respects to his life and legacy by remembering how he lived his life through music, family, and friends; that he lived for all three.
