Mahesh Bhatt Leads Indian Theatre Adaptation of Pakistani Hit Drama Humsafar Currently in Production

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s Humsafar is beloved among viewers worldwide, garnering huge popularity. Recently there was news that Humsafar will receive a stage adaptation in India; scroll down further for more information about it!

Imran Zahid confirmed this information exclusively with Zoom and noted, “We approached Pakistan’s Hum TV regarding rights to adapt Humsafar, featuring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, for stage adaptation. Momina Duraid who serves as creative director at HUM TV as well as CEO of MD Productions (the original creator) are in talks regarding this project.”

Imran added, “The performance will be free and will result in no financial gain as part of an initiative to promote Indo-Pak peace, in response to recent decisions of India’s Supreme Court and High Court and Supreme Court. A formal announcement will be made soon, and I would also like to inform you that Sultana Siddiqui – founder and president of HUM TV as well as Momina Duraid’s daughter-in-law is part of this conversation. Therefore I wish to make you aware before deadline day.”

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan’s The Legend of Maula Jatt premiered in Pakistan during October 2022 and changed the face of South Asian cinema, and might eventually make its way to Indian theaters between September 20- 24 2024 as reported by Bollywood Hungama. Zee Studios is said to have secured rights for this Pakistani movie which could make its Indian release delay due to distributor pull outs at launch date of December 30, 2023.

An INOX official had informed PTI in 2014 of this development: “We have just been informed by the producers that the release date for The Legend of Maula Jatt has been postponed indefinitely due to resistance from various sections. Due to this decision being taken not to launch it.”

Fawad Khan, best known for his roles in Hindi films like “Khoobsurat” and “Kapoor and Sons’, will return to Bollywood after an eight-year absence due to border restrictions caused by 2016 Uri terror attacks. After this setback he temporarily suspended his career but is set to make his comeback in cinematic form soon.
